Understanding my Ankle and Foot Pain

Why does my ankle or foot hurt?

Have you been on your feet more than usual? Your foot pain (heel pain like plantar fasciopathy) is from the soft tissues getting squashed under foot too much.

Did you roll your ankle at sport? Was there bruising after rolling your ankle? Or swelling, and could you walk on it straight away or soon after?

Often your foot will roll in under the ankle (inversion sprain) usually ending up with a ligament sprain, a tendon strain (peroneus) or potentially a fracture (avulsion or fibula) making it hard to walk.

What can we do about it?

Jenkins Physiotherapy uses hands on manual therapy, exercises, dry needling, advice and ongoing recommendations to help your body recover. We can also recommend the right supportive bracing when it’s needed.

We want to find exercises that you can perform to help you back to normal gradually, however sometimes strapping and holding it together is the best intervention sometimes too.

We look for ways to strengthen affected joints and ligaments, and progressively restore active range of movements, balance and confidence.

If it’s too sore often ice, painkillers and supportive brace, tape or bandages are needed.

Flare ups can happen, but we manage that and get going again.

Your foot may require orthotics, or a soft gel heel cup, taping, and strengthening work. We make this assessment for you.
